LTA PADEL

Hero graphic for a landmark padel event

LTA Padel approached Wood & Ham to create the hero graphic for the inaugural National Padel Championships in Bristol which is a first-of-its-kind event set to become a milestone in British padel history. The design would form a central part of the event’s promotional campaign, appearing across digital channels, on-site branding, print materials and merchandise.

WHAT WE DID

The Challenge

The brief called for a hero graphic that felt both timeless and iconic, drawing inspiration from the classic era of sports posters while capturing the energy and personality of padel’s rapid rise in the UK.

As the Championships were being held in Bristol, we also wanted the design to reference the city’s unique character, celebrating its role as one of the key hubs in the growth of British padel. The challenge was to create a piece that felt instantly recognisable, inclusive, and rooted in place.

Our Work

We worked closely with the LTA Padel team to explore a wide range of references from historic sports posters. From there, we developed a visual direction that balanced nostalgia with freshness — something that would feel familiar to sports fans while embracing a new chapter for padel.

Early exploration began with hand-drawn sketches to test compositions and capture the dynamic movement of the sport. We experimented with different ways of celebrating Bristol’s landmarks, incorporating subtle cues that would anchor the design in the city without overwhelming the players’ presence. Ensuring the featured players felt impactful, energetic and central to the story was key.

The Outcome

The hero graphic has become a central element of the National Championships’ identity, helping to establish a strong and distinctive visual presence for this landmark event. Used across digital promotion, venue signage, print materials and merchandise, the design has played an important role in building excitement and setting the tone for the Championships.

Next project.
