The challenge

Surrey Tennis, the governing body for tennis in Surrey, aimed to create a new digital and marketing strategy for their flagship event, the Surrey County Championships, with the goal of increasing entry numbers and improving engagement with the event online. With the tournament moving to the prestigious AELTC Community Sports Centre, the objective was to develop a brand experience that reflected the significance of the new venue and engaged a diverse audience, including players, parents, and tennis enthusiasts. The challenge was to create a unified and impactful brand identity for the Championships that resonated effectively both digitally and onsite during the event. The team at Surrey Tennis had the vision to position the event as the leading county championship across the country.

Our work

We worked closely with Surrey Tennis to develop a cohesive brand identity for the Championships, ensuring a consistent and engaging experience across all touchpoints, both online and in person, from the initial communications at the start of the year through to the event itself. The visual identity was designed to match the prestige of the Wimbledon venue while staying true to the values and well-established brand of Surrey Tennis. We achieved this through bold, angular visuals, minimalist typography across promotional materials, and an editorial photography style.

Our work involved creating a suite of designs for digital platforms, social media, on-site promotional materials, and signage, delivering a seamless brand experience from entry to court.

Our work

We also developed a standalone visual identity for the Surrey Tennis Showcase, which took place during the week. It was essential that this identity felt connected to the overall County Championships while still being distinctive. We achieved this by introducing a vibrant colour palette and circular visual language, reflecting the spotlight theme of the event.

In collaboration with the Surrey Tennis team, we crafted a comprehensive social media strategy aimed at capturing the emotional highlights of the event, boosting engagement, and creating lasting memories for participants. Additionally, we provided event photography that integrated seamlessly with the designs, ensuring daily updates on social media were visually engaging and cohesive.

The outcome

The new visual identity and marketing strategy resulted in record social media engagement for the Surrey County Championships with over 200k impressions across the week, with notable increases in both online engagement and on-site satisfaction among players and parents. The cohesive branding and emotionally driven storytelling successfully enhanced the event’s profile, positioning Surrey Tennis as a leader in delivering a memorable and prestigious County Championships.

Lewis and his team approached our County Championships with an incredible level of detail. Right from the start of the year they began planning, working closely with our office staff, referee and wider Surrey team to ensure that this event was the most memorable Champs to date. Lewis' photography and onsite promotional material got a lot of positive attention from players, parents and coaches, and we are already looking forward to planning for next year.
