Yesterday marked the end of our national webinar series delivered in partnership with the LTA, a project designed to help sports clubs across the UK improve their visibility, strengthen their identity, and grow their membership in a rapidly changing landscape.
Over the past few weeks, we’ve had the pleasure of working with club officials, coaches, volunteers, committee members, and venue managers from every corner of the country. The attendance, engagement, and feedback have been incredible, and the conversations sparked during the sessions have once again highlighted just how committed grassroots sport is to evolving and thriving.
At Wood & Ham, our mission has always been simple: help sports organisations to thrive. This webinar series gave us the opportunity to share the practical knowledge, tools, and creative thinking that sit at the core of that mission.

What the Series Covered
The three-part series focused on the areas we believe are fundamental to any club looking to grow:
1. Brand Basics for Sports Clubs: We explored what a strong brand actually means for a grassroots sports organisation, well beyond logos and colours. Clubs learnt how clarity, consistency, and emotional connection turn a local venue into a recognisable, trusted community space.
We looked at elements such as:
defining a club’s identity and story
communicating values
creating consistent visual and verbal messaging
using brand to attract the “right fit” members
2. Knowing, Growing & Engaging Your Audience: This session focused on understanding who your audience truly is (and isn’t). We discussed:
audience segmentation
member journeys
how to gather meaningful insights
building sustainable membership growth
creating content that resonates with your community rather than adding noise
This was one of the most interactive sessions of the series, with excellent discussions around family engagement, adult beginners, junior pathways, and local community partnerships.
3. Digital Essentials for Modern Clubs: A practical deep dive into social media and SEO
website fundamentals and SEO improvements
the role of photography and good storytelling
core social media dos and don’ts
how to make digital feel manageable even with limited resources
We also looked at real examples of clubs who’ve improved their digital presence and seen direct impact on membership, retention and engagement.

What We Learnt Together
There were several themes that came through strongly from those attending:
Clubs want to modernise, but they don’t want complexity.
Volunteers are stretched, clarity and simplicity matter.
Small changes to branding and digital setup can have a big impact.
Many clubs know what they need to do, but struggle with where to start.
There is a huge appetite for practical guidance, templates, and real-world examples.
If your club is looking for support with branding, digital strategy, or membership growth, or if you’d like to explore a tailored workshop for your county or region, we’d love to talk. Get in touch HERE
