Banstead Downs Tennis Club has been bringing people together through tennis for over 100 years. Nestled in beautiful Surrey, the club has built a reputation for its welcoming atmosphere, strong community spirit and commitment to making tennis accessible to players of all ages and abilities.

As the club entered an exciting new chapter, including the growth of padel and continued investment in its facilities, Wood & Ham was appointed to create a digital platform that reflected the quality of the club experience and supported its ambitions for the future.

The Challenge

Banstead Downs Tennis Club is one of Surrey’s longest-standing tennis clubs, with a rich history and a deeply rooted community presence stretching back more than a century. As the club continued to evolve, including the exciting introduction of padel tennis, the committee recognised a need to modernise both its identity and digital presence.

The existing website no longer reflected the energy, inclusivity and forward-thinking direction of the club. Navigation had become difficult for users, information was fragmented and the overall experience did not match the welcoming atmosphere members experienced in person.

The challenge was to create a refreshed digital presence that respected the club’s heritage while positioning Banstead Downs for the future, helping attract new members, support existing players and drive its exciting new padel journey.

Our Work

The project began with collaborative discussions to better understand the club’s structure, community values and long-term ambitions. With a broad audience ranging from juniors and families through to long-standing adult and senior members, creating a clear and intuitive user experience was a major priority throughout the project.

We redesigned the website architecture to improve navigation and make key information significantly easier to access, including memberships, coaching, competitions, social tennis and the club’s expanding padel offering.

Visually, the website was designed to feel clean, welcoming and community-led, balancing modern digital design with subtle references to the club’s long-standing heritage. Stronger imagery, clearer content structures and improved user journeys helped communicate the vibrancy of the club both on and off court.

Alongside the website design, we also supported the club with strategic content guidance and copy refinement, ensuring the messaging felt approachable, inclusive and aligned with the club’s identity.

The Outcome

The final result is a modern and accessible digital platform that better reflects the energy and direction of Banstead Downs Tennis Club.

The new website provides a clearer experience for both existing and prospective members, helping users more easily explore the club’s facilities, programmes and community atmosphere. It also gives the committee a stronger foundation for future growth, particularly as interest in padel and community tennis continues to increase.

Most importantly, the refreshed digital presence now feels far more representative of the club itself: welcoming, ambitious and community-driven, while still respecting the heritage that has made Banstead Downs such an important part of Surrey tennis for decades.
